Farmer's Market Sharon Yeago Retires

Sharon Yeago who started and continued to manage the High Spring Farmer's Market is retiring after eight years. During her time running the market, Yeago says it has really grown and become a staple in the community. She explains the slow season for the market is coming up in August and September. Yeago says the current state of the economy isn't hurting their business, because people are turning to locally grown food to avoid paying the increase of produce prices caused by high gas prices. Yeago believes the salmonella scare isn't affecting business at all because the growers are actually there at the market. Consumers can be certain where their produce is coming from, what pesticides were used on the produce, and find out other information. The market also works alongside the University of Florida to "grow growers"... to increase the number of growers producing their own food in Florida. Yeago explains her favorite part about her job was the people she got to work with. Yeago is now looking to try something new... possibly in the executive administration field. She's also going to take time to take care of her grandparents and other family business... And Yeago hopes that people will continue to support local markets and farmers in the future.
