While some Gainesville residents are looking for ways to avoid the summer heat they may want to think twice about getting in their pools. A Connecticut pool contractor was arrested yesterday on a charge of manslaughter after violating pool building codes. The contractor left a suction drain uncovered which not only trapped a six year old boy but caused him to drown in his own family pool. This may not be the only danger that faces residents; one local pool business says the chemicals inside your pool could be just as harmful. They say proper installation is important because incidents like in Connecticut are not rare. The business says that the pool along with drainages do need to be cleaned but should only be done under specific circumstances. The pool company says most business provides instructions on pool safety and maintenance, which is necessary for new pool owners. It is also recommended that residents take initiative when it comes to their family pools. This arrest in Connecticut marks the first time a swimming pool contractor is charged with manslaughter for violation of building and safety codes in the United Sates.
