New Library Charge

Along with prices for everything going up, now the Alachua County Library system will soon implement a new charge. Starting September 1st, anybody who has a book overdue for mroe than 60 days will have their information turned over to a collection company called Unique Management. Marketing and Public Relations Manager for the library district, Angela Harris, says it is technically not a late fee. Harris says this system is actually very common with other lirbaries. She says the charge will not apply to every pass due book. Because of over due and lost books libraries lose a percentage of books. Harris says this is also the case in Alachua County. Harris says it will be up to Unique Management can do more than the library can to recover the books. She doesn't think this new charge will affect the number of peeople that will visit the library. Harris says the new charge is not meant to bring in extra revenue to the library. Harris says the ten dollar charge was calculated from what Unique management will charge the library for their service. She adds the company will not charge the library for any services during the first three trial months.
