Happy Managers...Happy Employees

In the workplace, how a manager behaves has a lot to do with how employees react. A new University of Florida study found charismatic managers can get their employees motivated. Associate professor in the Warrington College of Business, Doctor Amir Erez, says employees are in a better mood when their leaders show more enthusiasm. Erez says a stufy including students and one with firefighters had similar findings. He says although the study showed when leaders were more charismatic, followers felt better, the researchers also had a surprising result, when managers go overboard the employees get annoyed. Erez says the finding can provide a lot of information for the workplace. He says the study found specific gestures that can be attributed to the charismatic leaders. Erez says this is a straightforward message that leaders can learn. The study shows people are most likely to follow someone they like, which would usually be someone who is in a better mood. Erez says this may apply to presidential candidate, Barack Obama, who smiles a lot and affects many people in a positive way.
