The fate of Alachua County Schools arts and music programs is still up in the air. The Friends of Alachua County Arts and Music Programs were unable to raise the more than 800-thousand dollars needed to help elementary school programs. Retired art teacher, Susan Johnson says although the music and art programs may not be fully reinstated for the 2008-2009 school year, the money will be put to good use. Johnson says if there's one thing she wants the public to know, it's that anyone can contribute to the fund at anytime. Johnson adds donating to the fund would be investing in an important part of the elementary school day. The organization is planning a back-to-school fund raiser in mid-August to support the arts programs.
