Dunnellon Residents Dread Construction of Rail-line

Progress Energy is seeing some opposition to the proposed construction of a rail-line through the city of Dunnellon to a planned nuclear power plant in Levy County. The Rainbow Springs Country Club was home to a meeting by Progress Energy yesterday, in which the group allowed residents to ask questions about the project. Progress Energy Florida spokeswoman, Cherie Jacobs says the rail-line would be intended for very limited use.

She also adds, it's the most feasible plan at this point.

But Chairman of the Suwannee, Saint Johns Group of the Sierra Club Florida, Rob Brinkman says this is why the residents of Dunnellon should be worried.

But Jacobs says the construction is the main issue to be discussed.

Unfortunately, Brinkman believes the project raises some risk for the area.

Along with the other opposers, he says the Sierra Club has shown their disapproval and feel it's not something we should build.

And when asked whether he thinks Progress Energy is listening to the concerns of those who oppose, he says ...

Brinkman is hopeful that the future for the project looks brief.

Jacobs wants to remind people its still early-on and her group wants to hear from the residents. The cost for the rail-line has yet to be determined, as the project is still in the planning phase.
