The international baccalaureate program's slogan may read "I think, therefore I-B," but parents are reversing the slogan to "IB, therefore I think --about paying extra." With state budget cuts taking a slice into funding for education, Eastside High School parents are worried about the threatened positions of IB Coordinator and TOK and CAS Counselors. Jay Mahajan is a parent of two in the IB program. She says a meeting tonight is designed to urge parents to raise a total of $150,000 to fund IB staff.
As the parent of a graduating senior, Mahajan wants her incoming freshman to have the same guidance in areas such as CAS and TOK. Mahajan says some IB requirements are quite involved and parents are worried that without the IB coordinator and TOK and CAS counselors for guidance, students may not graduate with proper credentials.
Mahajan says its up to the parents to start raising money before they can go out into the community and former IB graduates for funding.
An IB Trust Fund meeting will be held tonight at 5:30 at Eastside High School, headed by Principal Jeff Charbonnet
