Click-It Or Ticket This Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day travellers better remember to buckle up. The "Click it or Ticket" Campaign is in full swing and runs through June 1st. Florida Highway Patrol Captain Mark Welch says they'll be looking for unbuckled drivers and passengers, especially as traffic increases over the long weekend. Given the statistics, he says seat belts really do help save lives and this campaign works to encourage and enforce the use of seat belts.
The Executive Director of the North Central Florida Safety council Roger Brower says
last year alone, 40-thousand people were killed on U.S. highways and 40 percent of those cases could have survived if they had been wearing their seat belts. In last year's "Click it or Ticket" campaign, Florida law enforcement officers gave over 28,000 safety belt tickets.

Although Floridians cannot get ticketed based solely on not wearing a seat belt, it is strongly encouraged. If an official stops you for another driving infraction however, you could be ticketed for a seat belt violation as well. The campaign runs through June 1st
