Two business groups are challenging the constutionality of a new Florida law that allows employees and customers to keep firearms locked on a business's property. The Florida Retail Federation and the Florida Chamber of Commerce filed a lawsuit against the state on Monday. Coalitions and Initiatives spokesperson with the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Adam Babbington explains why his group chose to file the lawsuit. The lawsuit claims the new law violates private property rights and conflicts with the federal workplace safety laws. It questions the constitutionality of the law. The Florida Chamber of Commerce and Florida Retail Federation aren't the only ones who feel this way about the law. Babbington says a majority of Floridians share his views.
Babbington does not want to think about the lawsuit failing...but if it does, the Florida Chamber of Commerce will be ready. Governor Charlie Crist signed the law last week, and it takes effect July 1st.
