Delta and Northwest Airlines merger

Delta and Northwest Airlines have agreed to combine forces to form the world's largest airline. Now all that's left is approval from the regualtors and stockholders. CEO at Gainesville Regional Airport, Allen Penska is not sure yet what the merger will mean for Gainesville.

The third and fifth largest US Airlines will share the name Delta. The combined value of the two companies is about $18-billion. Penska hopes they use this money to compete with the growing trend of cheaper flight options.

If approved the new Delta will operate close to 800 planes and employ 75,000 people globally. Gainesville Regional Airport says overall they're feelings are cautiously optimistic.
