The Hipp's Big Weekend

It's gonna be a big weekend downtown at the Hippodrome. The Hipp's Director of Marketing, Jessica Thompson says with the closing of their main stage production the Pursuit of Happiness, comes the opening of the show Persepolis. This is the story of a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It is through the eyes of the outspoken 9-year-old Marjane that we see people's hopes dashed as fundamentalists take power--forcing the veil on women and imprisoning thousands. Marjane outsmarts the "social guardians" and discovers punk, ABBA, and Iron Maiden. Yet when her uncle is executed and as bombs fall around Tehran in the Iran/Iraq war, the daily fear that permeates life in Iran is noticeable. The show runs 95 minutes, and will be shown at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night, and at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. on Sunday evening.

The Hipp's "Pursuit of Happiness" will see it's final performance Sunday. Thompson says it's a great way to spend Mother's Day.
