The Pursuit of Happiness

Children are known for putting an adult's life in harsh perspective. This is the idea behind the play The Pursuit of Happiness now showing in Gainesville. High-school senior Jodie forces her parents to re-visit their college years and examine how they got to where they are when she writes a satyric college admissions essay admitting her fears of ending up like them. Gainesville resident Larry Daley says the show is not what he expected.In the show, Jodie decides she doesn't want to go to college. Her parents try different tactics to convince her, resulting in a comedy that anyone from teenage to middle age will enjoy. Warren Sammuels says that between laughs and knowing nods, the show sends a good message.

The Pursuit of Happiness is playing at the Hippodrome the rest of this month and the first week of May. Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for seniors. If you've ever looked back on your life and wondered where it all went, you don't want to miss this show about a quirky family living a life you're sure to recognize.
