The cold temperatures and the dry air may lead to a dangerous combination for local forestry. The National Weather Service is issuing red flag warnings for the area because of the extreme weather circumstances. Alachua County Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Ludie Bond says the the windy conditions and low humindity have put Alachua County on alert for more wildfires.
Grass fires are among some of the most common fires and can be very harmful if they are not put out properly. Bond says one of the easiest ways to ensure you are not starting a fire is to ensure your fire is completely out.
According to the National Weather Service, we are expected to have a rainy spring season that could reduce the number of fires in the next couple of months.
