Finding a job is difficult for anyone these days and with summer right around the corner, college students might struggle to find work. To help concerned students, the UF Career Resource Center hosted its Summer Job Fair earlier this afternoon. About 30 different companies set up booths in the Reitz Colonnade to hopefully recruit summer employees. With businesses ranging from summer camps and recreational companies to accounting and law firms, the fair gave students a variety of opportunities.
With more people looking for work and less jobs out there, students face more competition. In today's workforce, graduating college students no longer need to just worry about their peers, but experienced adults also rival students for the same positions.
Clockwork Home Services looked to recruit students who have already graduated for a number of positions. Corporate Recruiter Nicole Yensin says her company believes fresh college graduates have valuable qualities for a company over adults.
Today's fair gave students the opportunity to get a job without having to go far to look for it and Junior Mechanical Engineering Major Trevor Hice says that could make all the difference. If the job market is too competitive next year when he graduates, Hice says he will stay in school and further his education with a Masters or PhD program.
A recent poll by the National Association of Colleges and Employers found that 22% of college recruiters do not plan to hire any fresh graduates this spring, but an internship may be the best way for those looking for a job to get their foot in the door.
