Poison Prevention Week in Gainesville

This week is National Poison Prevention Week. Last year in Gainesville over 400 emergency calls were made for poisonings or overdoses. Gainesville Fire Rescue Risk Reduction Specialist Krist Gonzalez says they often deal with poisoning and overdoses and are using this week to teach people how to prevent the common causes of poisoning. She says the most common type of poisoning is caused by medications already in the home. She also says Gainesville Fire Rescue is hosting events at fire station five today and tomorrow focused on educating residents. Gonzalez believes the information residents receive will have an impact that lasts more than just this week.
