The Alachua County jail is getting a make-over... an $8.7 million makeover. The jail is getting some improvements and replacements to the structure as well as the security systems. Eugene Morris is the Programs Coordinator and Spokesman for the Alachua County jail. He says some renovations began a few months ago, and more will happen in the near future. Morris says they aren't completely sure how far 'down the road' the future projects will be.
The Alachua County Jail assures that none of the improvements are being done for visual or remodeling purposes. Morris says the areas are in need of repair. Morris says the fact that the jail never closes means thinking of ways for renovations to take place without threatening security. The completed renovations are not just geared toward the building and operations. Morris says they are crossing their fingers that all Alachua County jail improvements will be completed by the end of this year.
