Renovations for Florida's first ever Babe Ruth Softball World Series are underway. The Alachua County Recreation Center is undergoing largescale changes to support the 12 and under girls' softball world series which will be held in August. Hal Brady, Alachua Recreation Director, says renovations were needed even without the event because the fields get so much use.
Brady says the costs will be handled through donations from community sponsors and city taxes. Sante Fe Babe Ruth, who is hosting the world series, has its own budget to cover actual event costs. Brady estimates the of renovations will total $330,000.
Though the event won't kick off until late summer, Brady says the renovations are scheduled to finish by March 20th in order for the Sante Fe Babe Ruth softball and baseball recreation programs to begin.
