One person becomes infected with Aids every nine and a half minutes in the United States. The Alachua County Health Department is taking tomorrow, World Aids Day, to help people get better informed. Alachua County Health Department HIV Aids program coordinator, Bobby Davis says World Aids Day has been happening since 1988, and focuses on gaining awareness.Davis says that nearly 1000 people in Alachua County are infected with Aids and another 330 people are HIV positive. Davis says that this is higher than the national average because florida is the third highest state in the nation for Aids cases. However, Davis says World Aids Days in the past have been successful in helping more people get informed. If you would like to be tested, the alachua county health department will be offering testing.
