Search is on for Animal Attack Victim

The Alachua County Health Department is on the lookout for the victim of a possible animal attack. According to two separate reports, a twelve-year-old boy was attacked by a wild animal while riding his bike on SW 13th Street last Tuesday night. The boy supposedly defended himself by hitting the animal with a brick. Alachua County Health Department Environmental Health Director Anthony Dennis says inspite of the two reports, the young man has yet to be located. One of the reports claims the boy was bitten by a fox, while the other claims it was a wolf. However, a dead coyote was found near the site of the alleged attack. Dennis says the tests conducted on the coyote were returned as "unsatisfactory." In this case, it must be assumed, for safety reasons, that the coyote did have rabies. Dennis says animal attacks of this kind are not uncommon in Alachua. Dennis says it is important for this young man to seek medical attention immediately.
