The need for transportation exceeds the funds. Gainesville Regional Transit System Spokesperson, Chip Skinner says RTS has just completed its ten-year transit plan. Despite the current limit of funds, RTS has changes and improvement plans for its service. Skinner says there will be new routes to provide for RTS's ridership. Skinner also says there will be another new route, the 22, which was funded by an increased transportation fee for U-F students. In addition to the new routes, he says there are talks of a new system for speedier bus service. He says the bus rapid transit system is still in negotiations with the Department of Transportation. Regardless of the potential changes, Skinner adds that RTS has many rules in place to ensure safety. Skinner adds that RTS has long term plans to connect with outlying towns, such as High Springs, Alachua, Micanopy, and Waldo.
