Florida wildlife officials are urging boaters to be on the lookout for manatees that are migrating to warmer waters. US Geological Suvery Biologist, Jim Reed works says that local boaters need to be obey speed zone signs, especially now during high winter migration. Reed explains that manatees swim just below the surface and are hard to see. Boaters should give a manatee plenty of room in the water because it might not be travelling alone. Reed believes that manatees have been very special to the Florida ecosystem for over thousands of years. Boaters should ensure that they obey the law so that they can contribute to manatee protection along the coastal waters.
