According to an Institute of Medicine report, school lunch standards are lacking....... because schools aren't restricting the number of calories in cafeteria food. Gainesville dietician, Amber Wilhoit, says parents will be happy if their children are having healthy meals at school. Wilhoit says schools should take the first step to make sure students are having low calories meals at school. Director of Alachua Food and Nutrition Services, Maria Eunice, responses that the Alachua County School Board has already taken action to upgrade school lunch standards. Eunice says the Alachua County School board also has a wellness policy that they built in 2004. It gives recommendations for parents to limit sugary snacks for their children to bring to school. For more information about the wellness policy, you can go onto the School Board Frontpage at www.sbac.edu.
