This 4th of July weekend there may more than just a few rogue fireworks to watch out for. Heavy rains have created a breeding ground for mosquitoes statewide. While most people are familar with dealing with the flying insects. There may be some inherit dangers to watch out for. University of Florida Professor of Medical Entomology Jonathan Day says there are several types viruses that mosquitoes can transmit, the most danerous of which is the eastern equine encephalitis.Although the transmission of the virus known also as E-E-E-V is rare to humans, Day says it doesn't mean we aren't at risk.So far this year, 26 horses have been found to be infected in North Florida, Day explains there are various factors why North Florida is a focal area for mosquitoes.Day says other than avoiding being outdoors, there are 3 tips he suggests to reduce your risk of contracting the virus.
