Alachua County School Board members are rejoicing at the county's earning a grade A from the state. Public Schools superintendant Dan Boyd says the grade reflects the quality of the teachers and the abilities of their students. He says the grade is a result of a team effort by teachers, administrators, parents and students. But not all schools enjoyed the high grades that were handed out individually. Buccholz, Eastside and Hawthorne schools dropped in grades, and Duval and Rawlings Elementary dropped to an F. Boyd says this is because the state penalized those schools for limited yearly academic growth.
