Alachua County Fire Rescue will again be providing fire service in the city of Hawthorne starting this morning. Alachua County Fire Rescue Spokesperson Carol Davis says this is not the first time the county has provided these services.
Hawthorne developed a city fire department in 2007, but recently decided it was too costly to continue. Hawthorne City commissioners voted to remove the department and work with the county for the service instead. Davis says she don't expect residents of Hawthorne to have any problems with the move.
In return for the services the city of Hawthorne will pay a monthly fee of 4,600 dollars which will be paid through a new municiple tax for the residents of Hawthorne.
