Consumer Confidence Increases

University of Florida figures on confidence among shoppers show that residents are willing to spend again. Records tracking consumer confidence are displaying a six-point increase this month for an index of 71, as all five of the tracked components rose. U-F Economist Chris McCarty says consumers are being influenced by a tourniquet on the flow of bleak economic news. BUT, McCarty says confidence could dip again by the summer as the impact of state budget cuts and fee increases sink in. McCarty says it's been a suprise that consumer confidence has continued to rise despite the fact that residents are continuing to lose their jobs. Budget decisions by the legislature are exprected to be felt by mid-summer.
