Senior citizens throughout Florida still remain uncertain today after the termination of a federal Medicare Advantage contract with MD Medicare Choice. Department of Florida Elder Affairs spokesperson Jon Peck says that customers in this plan received a letter notifying them about this change. Over 16 thousand Medicare beneficiaries were moved to this Humana Incorporated plan which offers similar health and prescription benefits. Those effected have until January 31st to choose to stay with the Humana plan or to change. Peck says that changes in healthcare can be very disruptive but the state is there to help. The SHINE program provides the elderly with advice on Medicare situations with the help of a volunteer base. There are hundreds of SHINE volunteers across the sunshine state. They are always available for citizens and seniors interested in using their services can call the state's toll free Elder Helpline.
