Global warming is getting worse, and Floridians should be warned. Associate Professor of Ecology at the University of Florida Ted Schuur says thawing permafrost will be a major factor in the climate change. Permafrost is frozen, but Schuur says the questions are to be answered once thawing begins. He says information on permafrost has been gathered from results on previous studies. This is how they are able to estimate the total amount of carbon distributed in permafrost soils around the whole Earth. The issue with permafrost is not only in places such as Russia, Europe, or Greenland. Schuur says Floridians should be concerned. This week the Journal Bioscience will feature the studies of permafrost and its effects on global warming with Schuur as the lead author.
