Florida International University has completed its annual report on the Florida economy, labor, and wages...and for the most part, it mirrors the national economy which has slowed down. Because the housing bubble has burst, there has been a cascade of negative economic information--job layoffs, foreclosures, fewer jobs.FIU Center for Labor Research Director Bruce Nissan says help would come in the shape of more high paying, high-tech jobs.
He says Florida should leave behind its reliance on tourism and retirement, although he knows the move would take some time.
As far as what is to come, Nissan expext Florida to see a slowing down
He doesn't think the housing problem in Florida has bottomed out yet.
