One University of Florida professor believes the source of the salmonella outbreak in tomatoes may never be found. Although the issue is still being investigated, Associate Professor at UF, Keith Schnider says the tomato shelf-life poses the biggest problem. Schnider says consumers do not have to cut tomatoes out of their diet. He says many of the tomatoes in the state were not affected by the outbreak. Schnider adds the majority of outbreaks are never pinned to a source and he believes this may be a similar situation.
