Museums at the University of Florida are facing budget cuts along with the rest of the state. The Florida Museum of Natural History will be forced to close its Discovery Room and has let go of five employees in response to the cuts. Head of Exhibits and Public Programs at the Florida Museum of Natural History Doug Noble says the museum is in a difficult situation. Noble says the Florida Museum of History will remain open seven days a week in order to continue generating revenue and hopes that the museum can avoid budget cuts in the future. Noble says without state funding... charitable giving, earned income, and grants are keeping the museum alive. Another UF Museum, The Harn Museum of Art will remain open on Tuesdays after donations reversed a budget-cutting decision.
