A major road in Gainesville is scheduled to undergo maintenance. The portion of N.W 34th St. between U-S 441 and 5th Avenue will be resurfaced starting tonight. Florida Department of Transportation Spokesman on the project Chip Skinner says the work will improve the street and prevent more expensive maintenance in the future. The $2.3 project will also include replacing drainage pipes and sidewalks. While construction is being completed, drivers can expect to encounter a grooved road surface in the area under construction. Skinner says motorcyclist and bicyclist need to be especially mindful of this condition.
D-O-T says an average of up to 14,000 vehicles traveled the affected stretch of road daily in 2007. Nightly lane closures will be in effect from 8 p.m to 5 a.m throughout the duration of the project. Crews expect to complete the work by fall.
