Fire Assessment Fee

Gainsville residents are now asking "what's next?" with the Fire Assessment Fee. This fee could be used to pay for a portion of the costs of providing fire services to properties in the city. Gainesville City Commissioner At Large Thomas Hawkins says the passing of the fee could be the next step. Hawkins says he agrees with all of the residents who have concerns about the fee. Although residents would rather not pay more this November, Hawkins says the decision made at the previous meeting was to set an absolute cap on the ultimate assessment. if they chose to adopt it it would be thirty percent of the total funding rate. The county commission will be discussing this issue again July 16th. This will be a time to allow the community to voice their opinion to the commission directly.
