Forecasters say it's too early to tell where the first hurricane of the Atlantic season may go. University of Florida Assistant Professor of Geography, Corene Matyas believes whether it hits the state of Florida will depend on the intensity of a high pressure system nearby. But even if the eye of the hurricane misses Alachua County, Matyas says it's still entirely possible those in the county could feel the effects, including rain and even isolated tornadoes. Bertha strengthened to hurricane-intensity this morning. As of that point, the storm was located about 850 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Bertha is moving west-northwest at about 17 miles per hour through the central Atlantic.
