The Alachua County school board is saying it's A-B-C's, but for reasons you might not think. For the past three years the Florida Department of Education has given the Alachua County Public school the letter grade of an "A" for it's academic achievemnet after wieghing in FCAT scores for the county. Only 67-percent of Florida schools score within this percentage and the Public Information officer for Alachau County shcool Jackie Johnson explains the grading process. Some of these academic improvements include Metcalfe Elementray school that raised it's grade from an "F" to an "A". Hawthorne Middle and High as wellas Loften High als improved their grades to a "C". Johnson adds that no special programs were put into place to improve the academic standing of the county's schools. These grades do not go unnoticed, the school board plan on analyzing each schools performance. Johnson adds how complicated the grading is and how Alachua shcools fit into the equation. She says the district officials will spend the following weeks going over the grades and data that created the county's overall score.
