UF Astronaut Set to Walk on Space

US Air Force Colonel and University of Florida Graduate Ron Garan (rhymes with Karen) is a member of the current space shuttle Discovery crew. Garan graduated in 1996 with a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Florida. Garan earned his degree from UF's Research and Engineering Education Facility (REEF). The Director of the Program, Doctor Row Rogacki (Row-gock-ee) says that the school started in 1969 to assist the U.S. air force base in Shalimar, FL. Rogacki says that the program is proud of their graduates and a current astronaut in space. Most of the school's research is associated with Air Force problems and according to Rogacki more than 97-percent of the students in the program are associated with the Air Force. The Eglin Air Force base in the largest air force base in the world geographically.
