New Fees in Air Travel

Skyrocketing gas prices are replacing many travelers jetlag with a growing feeling of frustration. A number of airliners looking for ways to increase revenue are now more strictly enforcing carry-on size restrictions while also implementing policies charging for checked luggage. Public Relations manager at the Gainesville Reigonal Airport Michelle Danishovsky says travelers in the area have been safe from extra fees until recently. Airlines estimate it will cost almost 2 billion dollars more in fuel than in previous years. The cost of airline fuel has risen 200% since 2000, and around 90% this year alone. Some airlines are even being forced to cut service to smaller cities. Continental Airlines stopped serving Gainesville earlier this month. Despite the increasing number of concerns Danishovsky does see some positives in the current situation of air travel. Gainesville Reigonal has developed an email alert system to notify passengers about the lowest fairs available. To join the group visit flygainesville.com
