A 35-year old inmate of the Alachua County jail is being held at the jail further for trying to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife. John Michael Jones of Newberry met with an undercover police officer, asking him to kill his ex-wife and injure her friend for $3200. The undercover officer and Jones met in the visitiation room of the Deparment of the Jail where Jones gave the officer his cell phone number, thinking he would be released the following day. He told the police officer, once he was released, he would make arangements for payment. Jones is currently charged with Criminal Solicitation for Murder and Criminal Solicitation for Aggravated Aattery with no bond.
