Driving up road costs may pay out for Gainesville in the long run. The Gainesville City Commission discussed four alternative connector alignments to Southwest 62nd Boulevard at last night's special session. The Commission voted six to one in favor of alternative four, the choice that has a pricetag of 94 million dollars. Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan claims this solution, while pricey, will give citizens more bang for their buck. There is no decision yet on who will foot the bill for new roads. Rob Brinkman of the Sierra Club argues that citizens already pay too much money on transportation. The issue of alternative connector roads will be resolved by the Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization at their April 10th meeting.
