Waldo police officers arrested a man after finding four pipe bombs and a loaded semiautomatic rifle in his pickup. A routine license plate check showed thirty-nine-year-old David Olitsky of Gainesville was driving with a suspended license and outstanding warrant. Olitsky was arrested after disobeying an officer and attempting to go back into his truck where the rifle sat in the front seat. Waldo Police Chief, Michael Szabo, says the man's intentions are not yet known. Police contacted the Alachua County Sheriff's Office Bomb Disposal team after finding the pipe bombs. A pipe bomb is a simple type of explosive device that can be used to produce a relatively large explosion. Szabo says the officer's good judgement may have prevented an all too familiar incident of tragedies on university campuses. While in custody, the suspect was taken to an area hospital after complaining of chest pains. He was later booked into the Alachua County jail. Szabo thinks they have enough for federal charges.
