Budget Cuts May Hurt School's Health

Could you imagine a school with no nurses? Neither can Alachua County. Although the topic of the possibly removing school nurses was not on the agenda, it started a heated discussion at Tuesday night's school board meeting. During the meeting, board members tried to clear up the misconceptions that parents had regarding budget cuts that could lead to the removal of nurses in public schools. School board member Tina Pinkoson says that the school board is on the same side as the parents. Board members said that they realize the money coming from the state will not be there next year. The challenge they now face is trying to find the funds. For now, the Department of Health has volunteered to help by giving more than $600,000.
