Breast Cancer in Males

As part of the Cancer Awareness Month, women aren't the only ones needing to be aware. Male Breast Cancer is a rare genetic abnormality that compromises one-percent of all male cancer forms. Doctor Mandy Robertson from Shands Hospital says women are a hundred times more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Although more women are diagnosed with breast cancer, male breast cancer is often discovered at a more advanced stage which requires immediate evaluation. As for treatment, Dr. Robertson says that there's available data, previously performed on women, being used for the treatment of breast cancer.

Dr. Robertson also adds that breast cancer is less agressive in men even though it's diagnosed at a more advanced stage. Improvements in radiographic techniques are helping doctors treat cancer in both males and females. However, to avoid any further complications men should contact physicians about any abnormalities.
