Diaz Execution Raises Questions

The execution of Angel Diaz in Jacksonville took twice as long as most state executions, leaving defense attorneys and opponents of the death pentalty outraged. Prison Officials claim the drawn out execution was due to Diaz's liver disease and his inability to metabolize the lethal drugs. University of Florida Pharmacy Professor says that claim does not make sense. Doering says the best explanation from where he sits is the drugs didn't go directly into Diaz bloodstream. A hearing is being held in the 5th Circuit Court in Marion County to determine if an independent autopsy is necessary. Litigation Director for Diaz, William Hennis says they are challenging lethal injection on behave of another one of their clients, Death Row Inmate Ian Lightbourne.

The Florida Supreme Court ordered Diaz's body preserved until the lower court ruling.
