A study released by the British goverment says global warming could devastate the world economy on a scale comparable to a world war or major depression. University of Florida Geology Professor Abe Goldman says if we start to reduce greenhouse emissions now it will cost about one percent of the Global Domestic Product by 2050. If we fail to do so, however, the cost will be much higher.
The U.S. is not part of the Kyoto Treaty but Goldman says trying to reduce greenhouse emissions could create new jobs.
Goldman says global warming will especially hurt Florida because of the rising sea levels, more intense storms, and the impact of disease from mosquitoes. Nevertheless, it's an issue that affects every country in the world and requires a unified effort to fight it.
