School resource officers in will be armed with tasers at high schools around Alacua County. Spokesman for Alachua County Sheriff's office Keith Faulk says they have been carrying them for a few years now, but haven't had a situation in which on was used.
Faulk aslo says the distribution of tasers among school resource officers in Alachua County has been met with a positive attitude from other school employees.
School resource officers are urged to use extreme caution when using the tasers. Fauld says while the taser is considered less lethal than a gun officers still must know how and when to use them properly.
