If you've decorated your house with holly, mistletoe, and/or poinsettias, you may be concerned they could end up in the mouths of your small children or pets. However, a University of Florida Horticulture specialist says they are not as toxic as may be commonly believed. Dr. Rick Schoellhorn says the only ones at risk from accidental ingestion of holiday plants are those with allergies.
Schoellhorn says people who are allergic to latex should be aware of poinsettias.
Other than an allergic reaction, Schoellhorn says the only other possible symptom from mistakenly eating holiday plants is an upset stomach and potential vomiting.
