Sloppy Gators Beat Miami Of Ohio In Football Season Opener

The University of Florida football team was sloppy and seemingly disinterested but did manage to beat Miami of Ohio 34-12 Saturday in Gainesville in the season opener for both teams.

Florida only had 25 yards of total offense through three quarters before tailback Jeff Demps ripped off a 72 yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. Ironically, both teams ended up with the exact same total of total offense on the day…212 yards.

Already One Upset In College Football

The 2010 college football season is only a day old and already a nationally ranked team has gone down to defeat.

Joe Phillips kicked a 21 yard field goal in overtime to lift homestanding Utah to a 27-24 win over 15th ranked Pittsburgh Thursday night. Phillips bailed out the Utes, who blew an 11 point lead, with his field goal after Pittsburgh quarterback Tino Sunseri threw an interception on the first play of overtime. Utah won its 18th straight.

Gator Soccer And Volleyball Home This Weekend

Both the nationally ranked Gator soccer and volleyball teams will be in action at home this weekend.

The Gator soccer team looks to remain unbeaten as it hosts Jacksonville University on Friday with live coverage of the match starting at 6:50pm on WRUF. The Gators have started the season 4-0; they do not have a normal Sunday match this week as well.

High School Football Kicks Off Tonight, So Does AM 850 New Show

High School Sports

The football season for area high schools kicks off tonight with several games of interest and WRUF will also debut a new show called “High School Hits” which will review the area games. The show will air each Friday during football season at 10pm.

The feature game tonight will be city rivals Eastside and Buchholz going at it at Citizen’s Field at 7:30pm. The Rams are trying to win their fourth in a row in the series.

Colllege Football Season Starts Tonight! AM 850 Has Game Too

The 2010 college football season officially kicks off tonight with a handful of games, including former Gator coach Steve Spurrier matching his South Carolina Gamecocks against former Gator offensive coordinator Larry Fedora and his Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on ESPN.

AM 850 will broadcast another excellent game at 8pm after Gator Hotline at 7pm when Utah hosts nationally ranked Pittsburgh. Also playing tonight is top ten ranked Ohio State against Marshall and top 25 ranked Miami facing Florida A&M.

Starting Spots Still Up For Grabs For Gator Football Opener

With the season opener for the Gator football team just a couple of days away, there is still some question about who will be starting in a couple of spots on defense.

Offensively, the line has taken a hit with two starters out but Maurice Gilbert, Carl Johnson, Mike Pouncey, James Wilson and Mo Hurt will get the start up front with a lot of others who could get playing time with Xavier Nixon and Matt Patchan out with injuries.

Gators Could Have More Players Out For Opener

Already faced with having its top two right offensive tackles out for the game, the Gator football team may not have two of its veteran defensive lineman as well when Florida opens the season at home against Miami of Ohio.

Defensive line coach Dan McCarney said before Tuesday’s practice that veteran defensive tackles Lawrence Marsh and Terron Sanders could miss the game due to minor injuries. One team source told AM 850 sports that the injuries were not serious and that they would be held out to make sure the injuries stayed that way.

Ingram To Miss Opener; Masoli Declared Ineligible In News And Notes

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner will not play in the opening game this year and Ole Miss might have one less quarterback on its roster as we examine Sports News And Notes for Wednesday.

  • Running back Mark Ingram, the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner, will not play in Alabama’s opener this weekend against San Jose State because of a knee injury. He reportedly had an arthroscopic procedure done and coach Nick Saban says it will be monitored week to week.

Yanks Take Over First In AL East With Win, Rays Loss

The New York Yankees took over first place in the American League East after beating the Oakland A’s 9-3 Tuesday night.

That win, coupled with Tampa Bay’s 13-5 loss to Toronto, gives New York a one game lead over the Rays, who still have a very large lead for the wild card.
