Rays Sweep Tigers; Big Series With Yanks Next

The Tampa Bay Rays used another strong start by David Price to defeat the Detroit Tigers 4-2 Thursday to complete a series sweep. Price won his 14th game, the first to win that many in the American League.

In other AL action, the Rays now face the New York Yankees this weekend in a big series in St Pete and the Yanks stay two games ahead of the Rays after battering Cleveland 11-4. A seven run seventh was the difference for the Yankees.

Chicago completes a sweep of Seattle with a 9-5 win; Texas beat Oakland 7-4 and Baltimore edged Kansas City 6-5. By the way, ESPN analyst Buck Showalter has been named the new manager of the Orioles; he’ll start his new job on Tuesday.

In the National League, San Diego beat Los Angeles 3-2 to go seven games up on the Dodgers in the NL West. Washington beat Atlanta 5-3; R.A. Dickey pitched into the ninth inning to give New York a 4-0 win over St.Louis; Philadelphia won its eighth straight, beating Arizona 3-2; Ubaldo Jimenez won his 16th game as Colorado tops Pittsburgh 9-3; and Anibal Sanchez throws a one hitter to lead Florida to a 5-0 win over San Francisco.
