UF oil task force member on BP change
BP’s Chief Executive Officer, Tony Hayward, will be replaced with Robert Dudley, who willl be the oil giant’s first American C-E-O.
Dudley says he’s not underestimating the nature and complexity of what the company must do to restore its reputation and financial strength after the massive Gulf spill. Dudley adds the spill has been a wake-up call not only for BP, but the oil and gas industry overall. He says the company will be looking deeply at its review of operational safety and what it has learned from this spill.
We spoke with a University of Florida Oil Task Force Member, Jon Mills, who weighed in on Tony Hayward stepping down. Mills says B-P probably wanted to change its image after the oil spill.
He says this may not have a large impact on the people who were effected by the oil spill. Mills says the selection of an American as the new C-E-O could be strategic for B-P, since Dudley grew up in Mississippi.
BP says Robert Dudley will replace gaffe-prone CEO Tony Hayward on Oct. 1. The company made the announcement today as it reported a record quarterly loss.
