Oil Watch Florida
Hurricane season and the oil spill
Hurricane season started today and as always it is reccommended that people prepare their homes for the worst, but this season there is the additional issue of the oil spill from 44 days ago. There are also thoughts that it might help with spreading the oil around making it less of an issue. Dr.Corene Matyas is an assistant professor of geography and an expert in hurricanes and rainfall. She says the oil should not impact the amount of hurricanes or the intensity , but that it might cause more damage to certain vulnerable coastal areas. She also says people do not need to be worried about oil infected rain drops. There have been people reporting that working with or around the oil has made them ill due to the chemicals they are adding to the water to get rid of the oil, she says there does not appear to be a reason for people to worry about this as of yet.
